In this painting, Yinggarda Wadjarri artist Sonya Edney paints her country in the Gascoyne region of Western Australia. Sonya says: ‘We lived in Burringurrah community out from Mt Augustus. There was a small creek that ran between the block where we lived and the main community. The road went through the creek so we crossed there all the time when we went to school. When it really rained the creek could rise up and we would be stranded away from the community until the waters settled down. After the rains there would be an abundance of wildflowers. Growing up out in the bush with my family, we always had dinner out by the river and creek beds. We would fish and swim there.”
