In this painting, Yingarrda artist Sonya Edney paints her country in the Gascoyne region of Western Australia as Spring transforms the landscape. Spring rains have filled the creeks and rivers and there is a proliferation of wildflowers spreading across the red earth.

In the upper part of the painting Sonya depicts the fast-flowing river with light reflected on the water’s surface. The white reflections across the running water often show the reflections of the white trunks of the river gums, while the lower half of the painting shows the effect of the rains on the earth and the wildflowers sprouting and spreading across it.
