In this painting, Yinggarda-Wadjarri artist Sonya Edney paints Goolingurru Spring, also known as Edney Spring, a constant body of water that lies at the base of Mount Augustus. Sonya remembers this site from when she was 18, out at Goolingurru Spring with her family.

In the Creation story for the area around Mt Augustus, the ancestor young man Burringurrah had run away from Aboriginal law and was chased and punished by a spearing in the leg. He died at that place Goolingurru Spring, so the water always flows out of that spring and feeds into the creeks and waterways.

Sonya says of this painting: “I remember the spring from thirty years ago, and it has stayed the same. Spinifex grows around the spring, and the water comes out of the ground, from an underground stream. It’s always there, doesn’t dry up.”
