In this painting, Yingarrda artist Sonya Edney paints her country in the Gascoyne region of Western Australia as Spring transforms the landscape. Spring rains have filled the creeks and rivers and there is a proliferation of wildflowers spreading across the red earth.

In the upper part of the painting is the sense of the river with light and possibly the night sky reflected on the water’s surface. Often the white light reflected in the river is a depiction of the reflections of the white trunks of the river gums which flank the rivers. The lower half shows the effect of the rains on the earth and the wildflowers sprouting and spreading across it.
