Night & Day exemplifies the simplicity of Omeenyo’s compositional prowess. This is through the exploration of a graphic confidence and minimal colour combinations. Ancestral spirits accompany images of family, and Omeenyo’s recollections of country and culture in Lockhart River. A family of ancestor figures emerge from above and below in Floating and Watching, representing the omnipresence of the ancestors. The works speak to ongoing survival stories and fond memories of growing up in community. Night cruise together and Night at the sea recall time spent out in the boat hunting for fish, dugong and turtle or gathering oysters and mussels near the mangroves.
