iphone image, oil & acrylic on canvas, sand & rock (diorama)
FW14013
How people become of the landscape is a bit like the way totems are all around us even when we can’t see them with our eyes. This diorama contains a painted landscape, a street in Karumba which was named after his mother. By placing a figure of her in front of the street he has placed her back into the landscape. Her physical form is symbolic of her ongoing presence in the memory of others and the country, even when she is not there.
