Abie began painting in 1994 under the guidance of her grandmother, Indigenous artist, Kathleen Petyarre. A common subject of Abie’s paintings is the Bush Hen Dreaming, as well as Sandhills and the Body painting series of works which are more abstract in style. Abie creates paintings that are both powerful and beautiful whilst maintaining a sense of the sensitivity and strength she derives from her Dreaming and her country. Her works are held in numerous private, corporate and public collections nationally and internationally.

Story/Statement

SANDHILL COUNTRY 2013
Drawing upon sacred Eastern Anmatyerr stories from Utopia, Abie also experiments with new designs. Sandhill Country reveals the Artist’s strong technical command of line, colour and composition.

AWELYE 2010
Awelye are part of Women's ceremonial body paint designs. These ceremonies demonstrate respect for country as well as their community's well-being and health.

BODY PAINT DESIGN 2005
Women gathering at sacred sights to perform ceremonies will usually sing and apply paint to each other which takes the form of ceremonial significant designs. Body paint design uses a combination of white and ochres – traditional colours significant to Abie and her country.
