Miles Allen’s solo exhibition Connections will be featured in the downstairs gallery at FireWorks. The 14 works displayed are predominantly sculpture and installations using found objects from the Northern Territory. One of the feature works in Connections, Whose land is it anyway? 2012-2018 (6 panels) was inspired by Miles’ research into Aboriginal boundaries and borders and related issues of control and dispossession. Another work, Bush Tucker (2020) is a collaboration which the artist completed at Haasts Bluff (some 230kms north-west of Alice Springs) with Ikuntji Artists Anne Dixon, Roseranna Larry, Joseph Lane, Belinda Wheeler, Francis Marshall, Daphne Marks, Kelly Dixon and Ena Fly. ‘Connections’ is a series of works about our country, landscapes and environment. The found objects in these works… have now been reinstated in a different context, reality, form and status… they tell stories of hope and despair, resilience and fragility, continuance and curtailment, and permanence and ephemerality (The artist, 2020).
