A SWEEP: Old & New Works is a diverse group exhibition featuring indigenous, non-indigenous, male and female artists from the Northern Territory, Queensland and New South Wales. The show includes new works, as well as secondary market works alongside gems from the stockroom. With almost 30 pieces including paintings, works on paper and mixed media, the exhibition presents a variety of scale, size and artistic intent.
Step back in time with a classical mix of central desert Aboriginal artists and luminaries, including paintings by Yala Yala Gibbs Tjungurrayi, Makinti Napanangka , Johnny Warangula Tjuparrula, Emily Kngwarreye, Tommy Watson, Ronnie Tjampitjinpa and Bill Whiskey Tjapaltjarri.
Juxtaposing these works are new, contemporary paintings by Scott Redford, David Paulson and Samantha Hobson. Though varying drastically in style, these artists all use vibrant colours in their paintings, providing a dramatic contrast.
In addition to painting, the exhibition features works on paper by Vincent Serico and photographs by Juno Gems; both artists who explore and document indigenous peoples lifestyles. As well, mixed media works by Miles Allen and Alick Sweet present playful impressions, figures and landscapes in the ‘assemblage’ tradition.
Michael Eather, Director says, “These pieces have been assembled together with a sense of fun to highlight the diversity of artwork housed by FireWorks Gallery and thus offering A SWEEP through the collection”.
Artwork prices range from: $1500 - $90000
