Assembly Lines is English-born, Brisbane-based artist, Alick Sweet’s, third solo exhibition for the gallery. As recognised by Louise Martin-Chew in her essay Assembly Language, Alick’s artistic practice is built on “a love of materials and a fascination for exploring the possibilities inherent in wood and paint. In his most recent series - aeroplanes mounted as a wall-based installation - Sweet shows his sophisticated flair for abstraction, honed over many decades as a painter, sculptor and artist.” Alongside new sculptural forms of the kangaroo – including the towering, almost three metre high A Kangaroo – and dog, this exhibition also highlights the progression of Alick’s fish and turtle studies, that explore colour, shape and line.
