In her new series of domestic scaled paintings, Hoffie seems to have adopted styles and aesthetic ambitions from a previous era. Each image features an interior: a room with a view, furnished with the accoutrements of aspirational lifestyles. These are the interiors of Australian homes, each featuring the 'conversational pieces' of modernist furniture - clues that suggest the aesthetic and cultural sophistication of their inhabitants. And if some complain about a creeping sense of asphixiation, it is held at bay by by screens of architecture and skeins of paint.
